MONTOPOLIS PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

183 pedestrian bridge.jpg

The Montopolis Bridge is a historic truss bridge in Austin, that has been converted from a vehicular to pedestrian bridge. It is located immediately adjacent to Highway 183 in the east part of Austin, and plays a significant role in providing pedestrian connections to existing parks and trails. The new pedestrian bridge is also slated to serve as a space for local farmer’s markets, music events, and community events for the expanding population of east Austin.

LSI drew from the angular forms of the bridge to generate shading devices, paving patterns and programing elements to create places of respite, and interest along the bridge.
